Over the many years that PUAH has assisted couples and worked to spread awareness about infertility and reproductive health, we’ve learned that there’s one particular topic that is crucial for every couple to understand, in order to prevent unnecessary fertility problems: Taharas HaMishpacha. The laws of family purity establish the holy underpinning of the Jewish home.
By understanding and adhering to these halachos, and appreciating the deeper spirit behind the laws, a couple’s shalom bayis – and their intimate relationship – is immeasurably enhanced. But the halachos are complex, and, all too often, when couples come to us for counseling, we discover that the root of their fertility issue is actually a misunderstanding or misapplication of the halachos of Taharas HaMishpacha. And those are only the couples who come for advice. How many more couples are simply suffering on their own, not realizing that their problem has such a simple halachic solution? Then there are the more complicated and cutting-edge niddah questions, such as the halachic ramifications of gynecological procedures and abnormal uterine bleeding.
